The seeds contain fatty acids such as stearic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, myristic acid and lauric acid.Preliminary phytochemical screening of the aqueous leaf extract of Irvingia gabonensis shows that it contains phlobatanins, saponins, phenols and tannins.
