Hausa koko is a breakfast dish eaten across West African countries. In Ghana it is called Hausa koko because of its popularity in the northern areas of Ghana and it is believed to have been first made by the Hausa.

Hausa koko is made of millet and local spice added to it to give it taste and color. Hausa koko is a breakfast mostly sold on the Ghanaian street. It’s eaten with sugar, milk and preferably groundnuts to give it a delicious taste.


Name variation: Ogi, pap, koko, akamu


Recipe & Preparation

  1. Mix three tablespoon of hausa koko flour with small quantity of water to get a paste.
  2. Boil 500ml of clean water
  3. Pour the mixed paste onto the boil water in a saucepan and stir continuously for about 4 minutes
  4. Dish out and add desired amount of sugar and milk to taste
